On March 6th, Best Buddies Iowa held its first ever Des Moines area prom for high school and college chapters. Over 150 program participants from 13 chapters in the Des Moines area took part in “An Evening in Hollywood” to celebrate Best Buddies month.
The Best Buddies prom was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the success of the Des Moines area chapters this year and the friendships created through its programs. Everyone had such a great time, there is already plans underway for next years event!
Those in attendance had a wonderful time dancing the night away all dolled up in their dresses and tuxes. Participants could even and get their pictures taken and make picture frames.
The best part of the evening was close to the conclusion when Best Buddies Iowa crowned an Outstanding Buddy Pair from each chapter. The Outstanding Buddy Pairs were selected by members of the corresponding chapter and showcased the mission of one-to-one friendships through Best Buddies.
The event also continued the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign started March 3rd. Prom attendees could sign the pledge banner and purchase Spread the Word to End the Word and Best Buddies merchandise.
A group of student leaders from the participating chapters organized and planned “An Evening in Hollywood” for Best Buddies participants and is responsible for the successful evening. |
